AdminHistoryThe extensive manor of Howden formed part of the temporalities of the Bishop of Durham from medieval times. Ownership passed to the Bishop of Ripon in 1837 and to the Church Commissioners in 1857. Earlier records and more general administrative records are held at the University of Durham.
