Osborn Cecil Wilkinson was born in Simla, Bengal, India on the 8 Sep 1877 the son of George Allix and Eliza Wilkinson. Throughout his life Osborn lived in India and in and around London. In 1911 he lived at 9 St Georges Road, Eccleston Square, London S W. He was educated at Sandhurst and at a gymnasium in Heidelberg, and became a 2nd Lieutenant in the 2nd Battalion, East Yorkshire Regiment. He gained his first rank on the 16 Feb 1898. On 9 Oct 1889 he was promoted to Lieutenant and on 28 Sep 1905 he was raised to the rank of Captain.
He served with the 2nd Battalion in the 1900-01 South African War, taking part in operations in the Orange Free State in Feb to May 1900, including the action at Houtnek, and in the Orange River Colony, including the actions at Biddulphsberg and Wittebergen. He also served as Assistant Provost Marshall. In 1914 he was an instructor at the Army Musketry School at Pach Mari in the Central Provinces of India.
In Dec 1914 the Battalion was undergoing training in Winchester and in mid Jan 1915 embarked for France. Captain Osborn Cecil Wilkinson was mortally wounded during the First Battle of Ypres on the 5 Feb and died the following day of his wounds. He left a wife and son, Esme Barbara and ten month old Peter Allix, and effects amounting to £553 1s. 4d.
Osborn was buried at Hazebrouck, Belgium and was awarded the Victory medal and the 15 Star.
