Frank Hunsley was born on 27 Sep 1890 in Beverley and baptised at St Mary's Church, Beverley, the 15 Oct 1890, the son of Robert and Louisa Hunsley of 43 Norwood Grove, Beverley and had 5 brothers John Henry, Walter Belcher, Thomas, Robert and George and 3 sisters Charlotte Elizabeth, Clara Louisa and Ada. He attended St Mary's Boys' School, Beverley and won a scholarship to Beverley Grammar School. After leaving Beverley Grammar he attended York Training College and graduated as a certified teacher. His first post was as an assistant master at St Barnabas' School in York. In September 1914 he was appointed assistant master at Minster Boys' School, Beverley. In April 1915 he was given leave of absence to join the Army.
He joined the 4th Battalion London Regiment (Royal Fusiliers 56th Division). He was wounded in Nov 1916 and spent some time in Eastbourne Hospital recovering. He died on 26 Sep 1917 at the Battle of Polygon Wood. He was awarded the Victory Medal and British War Medal.
