Arthur Ernest Hobson was born te 13 Apr 1889, the youngest of five children of John and Edith Hobson of Oxford Villas, Hornsea. Arthur attended Hornsea School and before the war, as a young man, was a member of Hornsea's Voluntary Aid Detachment.
Arthur enlisted in the East Yorkshire Regiment then joined the Northumberland Fusiliers. In 1915, he married Ann Ellen Johnson and in Jun 1917 was listed as wounded in the newspaper. In 1918 he was awarded the Military Medal, a fact that was announced in the Hornsea VAD meeting of February that year.
Arthur died aged of 88 in 1977 at Hornsea alongside and was buried alongside Ann who died a few months earlier. Arthur Ernest Hobson was awarded the British Medal and the Victory Medal
