Tom Green was born the 1 Jan 1886 in Warter. His parents were Thomas and Sarah Ann Green, after their marriage they lived in South Cave, followed by Foston, Warter, Cottam and Beverley. Whilst living in Beverley his parents ran a carrier business. This business was eventually taken over by one of their sons, William Escritt. In 1911 Tom was living at Lois Grange, Middleton on the Wolds, employed as a foreman on a farm. By the time of his deployment he was working as a goods porter at Beverley station.

Tom was a private in the East Yorkshire Regiment and during the war was awarded the DCM. He gained this honourable medal 'for conspicious gallantry and devotion to duty. During an attack upon the enemy line he located and bombed a hostile machine-gun, bayoneted the gunner, and captured nine prisoners. His courage and initative saved his comrades from heavy casualties' as reported in the Leeds Mercury

Tom married Mary Elizabeth Gartside on 9 Aug 1917. Mary was a widow and their marriage was briefly mentioned in the Beverley Guardian on 11 Aug 1917. Tom died in Beverley in December 1974
