James Duffy was born 7 Jul 1889 and baptised 28 Aug 1889 at St Nicholas Church, Beverley. He was the youngest son of William and Ann Duffy. William was born in Armagh and Ann in Sligo. James had 5 siblings, William, John, Arnie , Frank and Charles. In 1911 they were living at Cherry Tree Terrace, Beverley. James worked in Beverley as a postman. He married Ethel Lightowler in Sep 1913 and they had one child Dorothea May in 1918.
Private Duffy served in the Second Yorkshire regiment. He was awarded the Victory Medal, British War and 15 Star. He was promoted to sergeant was discharged from active service 3 Aug 1917. James Duffy died in Hull aged 48 in 1938
