Edgar Drew was born on 11 May 1890 and baptised on 8 Jun 1890 at Cherry Burton. He was the son of Joseph Drew, a farm labourer and his wife Sarah (nee Beales). Edgar was the eldest of their fourteen children. At the time of the 1911 Census twenty-year-old Edgar was living at home with his parents and siblings in School Lane, Walkington and working as a farm labourer.

The Medal Rolls show that Private T/2645 Edgar Drew enlisted in the Territorial Army, the Royal Field Artillery. When the numbering system was changed in 1917, Edgar was allocated a new Regimental number: 770907 and was later promoted to the rank of sergeant. In the New Year's Honours List of Jan 1919 it was announced in the press that His Majesty the King was pleased to award the Distinguished Conduct Medal to Sergeant Edgar Drew of the Royal Field Artillery. He was also awarded the British War Medal and the Victory Medal.

On 12 May 1920, Edgar Drew married Laura Wilson at All Saints' Church, Bishop Burton. They had two sons, Ronald born 1921 and Bernard Ringrose born 1924 in Bishop Burton. By 1939 Edgar and Laura and their family had moved to Anlaby and Edgar working as a timber merchant. According the the 1939 Register Edgar Drew was also a Special Constable. Their son, Ronald, died aged eighteen on 29 Jan 1940 and is buried in the churchyard at Bishop Burton.

Edgar died in Hull on 2 Apr 1947 aged 56, Laura died on 3 Nov 1973, aged 84, they are both buried at Bishop Burton.
