Arthur was born in Beverley the 13 Feb 1894 and was baptised at St Mary`s Church on 7 Mar 1894, the son of John Blakeston Wallis, a groom at Molescroft Hunting Stables and Mary Ann Wallis. In 1901 the family lived off Tiger Lane, North Bar Within. By 1911 the family was living at 17 North Bar Without, Arthur was a tanner’s labourer.
Arthur joined the East Yorkshire Regiment in 1912 and served with the 5th Cyclist Battalion, based on the Holderness coast. He achieved the rank of Corporal. He served in France. In 1919 he was granted the Silver War badge for injuries unknown, he also received the British and Victory medals.
On 6 Jan 1917 he married Annie Sutton at Beverley Minster, they had three children, Laura born 1919 in Beverley, and Roland born 1920 and Leslie born 1924, in Hartlepool. In 1939 the family was living in Hartlepool and Arthur was employed as a nightwatchman on the LNER railway. Arthur died on 14 Jan 1976 in Hartlepool.
