Ernest Edwin Williamson was born in 1898 in Beverley the son of Robert Henry Williamson, born in Walkington and Agnes (nee Wilson) born in Bishop Burton. In 1911 the family were living at 3 Railway Terrace.

Edwin was a bugler in the Beverley Church Lads Brigade. He joined the 5th Battalion East Yorkshire Regiment at Beverley in 1914 at the outbreak of war, and was deployed to France in Feb 1915. The Battalion was involved in the 2nd Battle of Ypres and Edwin died on 5 Jul 1915 from a snipers bullet. He was the first member of the Church Lads Brigade to be killed. A letter in the Beverley Guardian 17 Jul 1915 from the CLB stated 'We knew him in peace times as one of the best, a true pal and always cheerful and good natured'.

Edwin was buried at Farm Cemetery, Heuvelland, Belgium.
