Percy Blyth was born in Beverley in 1894, son of Robert and Mary Blyth and brother of Eliza. In 1901 he was living with his parents and sister in Walkergate, Beverley. His father, a farm labourer died three years later aged 51 and by 1911 his mother was listed as a char-woman and Percy an apprentice joiner.

Percy enlisted in the 5th Battalion Yorkshire Hussars which became part of the 150th Brigade and 50th Division Northumberland Division. During the Battles of the Somme in 1916 the Division fought in the Battle of Fler-Courcelette where Percy died on 17 Sep. Percy is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, France. He is also commemorated on the Beverley War Memorial, Hengate, on the East Riding Memorial in Beverley Minster and on St Mary`s Church Beverley Roll of Honour, where his name is spelt Blythe.
