Description | Work completed by volunteer includes the following information: Harry was born in Beverley the 4 Jul 1895 and he was baptised the 11 Aug 1895 at St Mary’s, Beverley the son of Richard Skinner and Constance Louisa (nee Keith). Harry was brought up on Blucher Lane and later at 16 Brougham Row, St Nicholas’ Road. He became a farm worker and in 1911 s he was a cowman on the Duggleby Farm, Arram.
The Beverley Guardian in Aug 1916 contained a photograph of Harry in uniform, indicating he probably joined up at the end of 1915 or early 1916. He served as a private in the West Riding Regiment at some point between 1916 and 1918 he was injured and was taken off frontline duties and switched to the Labour Corps. He was awarded the War and Victory Medals.
Harry returned to Beverley and in 1923 he married Phoebe Mary Burgan, born in Scunthorpe, the couple lived at 22 Eastgate and had two children, Barrington born 1924 and Florence born 1929. Harry died in Aug 1935 aged 40 and was buried in Queensgate Cemetery, Beverley on 9 Aug 1935.
