Harold Ramshaw was born in 1895, the second youngest son and one of nine children of John and Sarah Ramshaw (nee Raper). John was butcher and the family lived in Beckside, Beverley. In 1911 Harold was working as horseman on a farm in Market Weighton.
Harold enlisted in the 5th Battalion of the Yorkshire regiment as a private in 1915 and served in France until his discharge in Apr 1919, eventually ending up in the Labour Corps. He was awarded the 15 Star, the British War medal and the Victory medal.
After the war Harold lived with his father and worked in Hull having set up business as a butcher. In 1923 Harold was involved in a paternity case.
It is not known when Harold died.
