Arthur Rispin was born in 1896 the son of George and Mary Rispin, George was a tanners labourer. Aged 15 in 1911 Arthur was employed as a labourer at the whiting works and living in the home of his married brother, George.
Arthur enlisted on 31 Aug 1914, with the 5th Yorkshire Regiment, a Territorial Force Battalion, known as the 'Beverley Terriers'. They embarked for France in Apr 1915 where they took part in many of the major battles. Arthur was wounded in 1918, and discharged in Sep 1918, he was awarded a Silver War Badge. He also received the British War and Victory Medals and the 15 Star.
While serving with the Yorkshire Regiment, Arthur married Edith Ratcliffe in Drighlington on 20 Aug 1917, they had two sons, Rowland born 1921 and Jack born 1923. In 1939 the family was living in Brompton Road, Bradford. Arthur was employed as a motor transport driver.
Arthur died in Bradford in 1963, aged 67.
