John Robson was born in Beverley the 29 Sep 1897 and baptised at Beverley Minster the 23 Jan 1899, the son of John William Robson and Rose (nee Grant). His father John was a plumber and the family home was 1 Eastgate and later 57 Eastgate, Beverley. John also became a plumber.

John became a private in the Seaforth Highlanders, he served on the Western Front in the 4th and 8th Battalions. The Beverley Guardian of 18 Aug 1917 noted that he had been seriously wounded and repatriated to the UK to a hospital in Cheltenham but it did not specify the nature of his injuries. John later switched to the Machine Gun Corps. He was awarded the War and Victory medals.

John resumed his plumbing work, living with his parents in Eastgate. He married Elsie Awty in 1935. They did not have any children. In the 1939 Register they were recorded as living at 32 Athelstan Road, Beverley. John died in 1977 aged 79; Elsie died in 1987.
