Alexander Robson was born the 23 Sep 1890, in Beverley, the son of John William and Rose Robson. By 1911 Alexander had five siblings and the family was living at 57 Eastgate, Beverley. His father John William was a plumber. Alexander, known as Alec, worked with his father before he joined the army.
Green's Almanac suggests Alexander was attached to the Kings Own Yorkshire Light Infantry, having originally joined the Alexandra Princess of Wales' Own Yorkshire Regiment. Whilst serving with the KOYLI during the battle of the Somme, on 25 Sep at the age of 26, that Private Alexander Robson was killed during a disastrous attack on enemy positions which saw the Battalion blocked by barbed wire that a twenty four hour barrage of artillery had failed to cut.
There is no known grave for Alexander, he is remembered on the Thiepval Memorial and in the Beverley Minster Roll of Honour. He was posthumously awarded the Victory Medal and the British Medal.
