Jesse Robinson was born the 14 Aug 1895, the son of Frederick and Annie Elizabeth (nee Stokes). Frederick was a bricklayer's labourer. In 1911 Jesse was an apprentice boot repairer.
In Mar 1916 Jesse enlisted as Cyclist 1425 in the 5th Battalion East Yorkshire Regiment, he was transferred to the 12th Battalion and posted to France. In Sep 1917 he was transferred to the 13th Battalion York and Lancaster Regiment as a Private and, just a few days later, suffered a gunshot wound to his thigh.
He was awarded the British War and Victory medals and a Silver Badge for his part in the war.
Jesse married Dorothy Nettleton on 3 Apr 1937 at St Wilfred Church, Leeds, they had two children. In 1939 Jesse was living in Beverley and employed as an oil miller,
Jesse died in 1969 aged 75.
