Harold Clarence Potts was born the 29 Oct 1892 in Beverley and baptized the 27 Nov 1892 at Beverley Primitive Methodist chapel. He was one of seven children of Richard and Alice Potts (nee Bayes). Richard his father was a builder the family lived at Norwood, Beverley. From 1908 to 1911 Harold served in the Beverley Boys brigade and by 1911 he was apprenticed to be a joiner.

In Jun 1915 Harold enlisted with the Royal Field Artillery of the 2nd Northumbrian Brigade, he served in France from 1916 to 1919. He was awarded the British and Victory medals and was discharged from the army in 1919.

On 8 Feb 1928 Harold married Edith Ellen Dunn at Rowley parish church. They had two sons, Kenneth Richard born 1929 and David Brian born 1943. In 1939 Harold and Edith were living in Norwood, Beverley and Harold was a house carpenter.

Harold died on 24 Apr 1952 in Beverley and was buried at New Walk Cemetery, St Mary's Church Beverley, aged 58.
