Harold Overton Oldfield was born the 27 Aug 1895, the sixth of eleven children of George and Mary Elizabeth Oldfield of 60 Beckside, Beverley. In 1911 Harold was working as a tanner’s labourer, as was his brother Frank and his father. In 1914 Harry married Dorothy Lynam, they went on to have 5 children; Dorothy, Margaret Ellen, Timothy Harold, Edgar William and Harold.
Harry enlisted in the East Riding Yeomanry, he was awarded the British and Victory Medal and he was a member of the Yorkshire Dragoons.
After the war the family lived in Beverley and Harold worked as contract fitter. On 27 April 1922 he was working on a hand crane at Leeds Gas Works when the crane swung round and crushed him against a wall. He was killed instantly. The coroner recorded a verdict of accidental death. He was brought home to Beverley and was buried in Queensgate Cemetery on 1 May 1922.
His widow Dorothy married Horatio Thomas Holmes in 1923, she died in 1977.
