Benjamin Megson was born the 18 Jan 1893 in Beverley, the son of Benjamin, a bricklayer, and Ann Megson. In 1911 Benjamin was an apprentice tailor living with his family in Beverley.

Ben enlisted in the Royal Engineers at the beginning of the war and served in France in 1915 earning the 1915 Star. In 1917 his photograph was published in the Beverley Guardian stating he was in hospital in Malta suffering from gas poisoning. In 1919 he was transferred to the class Z reserve which meant although he returned to civilian life he could still be called back to action. The reserve was abolished in 1920. He was awarded the British and Victory medals.

Ben married Lily Farmery on 29 Apr 1920 at Sigglesthorne and they made their home in Seaton. They had two children Margaret and Eileen. In 1939 the family were living in Seaton and Ben was working as an auxiliary postman. Ben died in 1980 and is buried at Sigglesthorne church
