Wilfred Martin was born in Hull the 16 Apr 1885. In 1901 he was living with his family in Thornaby near Middlesbrough. His father Frederick Martin was aged 54 and employed as a shipwright/carpenter, his mother was Ann Elizabeth aged 44. By the time of the 1911 Census his mother was the head of the household and was living at Bond House, Grovehill Road, Beverley. Wilfred was employed as an apprentice ship`s plumber. There were several boarders at this address, all employed in the shipbuilding industry.

Wilfred joined the 5th Yorkshire Regiment. He survived the war and married Gertrude Emily Hardy, born in 1898, in 1921. In 1932 he set up in business as a plumber. Two years later they moved to Landress Lane, Beverley. Gertrude ran a fried fish shop. Wilfred died in Dec 1978.
