Albert Moody was born 5 Apr 1895 in Beverley. He was the third child of Aaron and Annie Moody. In 1901 the family lived in Keldgate, Beverley and by 1911 Albert was living with his widowed grandmother Rebecca in Chantry Lane Beverley and was employed as a butcher’s errand boy.
He signed on for military service in 1914 initially in the army service corps and in 1916 his photograph appeared in the Beverley Guardian as the brother of Harold Moody who had been wounded in action and awarded the DCM.
In 1916 Albert was serving in France and in the autumn of 1917 he was transferred as a Lewis gunner and sent with the 9th Battalion to serve with the 23 Division in Italy. He was awarded the 1915 star, the British and Victory medals
At the end of the war Albert enlisted in the East Riding Constabulary on 16 March 1919. He served as a constable in the Pocklington area and was highly commended twice. He married Emma Hatfield in 1921 and they had a son Kenneth born 1923. He continued to serve in the police force until 1944.
Albert died in 1978. He is remembered on the Keldgate street shrine
