The second son of William and Emma Milson, William Carr Milson was born on 30 Jul 1866 in Sheffield. Both his parents were from Lincolnshire. His father was a shoemaker, William was apprenticed to him becoming a shoemaker himself when a civilian. The family lived in various locations during William's childhood including Sheffield, Macclesfield and Hull.

William served in the Army three times. He first served with the Queen's Own Cameron Highlanders from Jan 1885 to Jul 1886 when he purchased his discharge. He spent some time in Egypt with the regiment and was awarded the Egypt star and the Khedives Medal. William was in the 2nd Volunteer Battalion of the East Yorkshire Regiment when he re-joined the army in Mar 1900 serving in South Africa with the East Yorkshire Regiment until Jun 1901 for which he received the South Africa Medal. Finally, he joined the Territorial Force in Jan 1909 initially for four years but subsequently extended to Oct 1916. He served in the UK, including at Scarborough and Redcar, with the 5th Battalion of Alexandra, Princess of Wales's Own (Yorkshire Regiment) and was awarded the Territorial Efficiency Medal.

He married Ann Marie Cooper on 3 Oct 1887 in Beverley. They had six children; Mabel, William James, George, Lily, Stanley and Rosa. The family lived at several addresses in Beverley and Hull. In 1922 William and Maria Ann joined their son George and his wife Rhoda in Canada at Brockville, Ontario. There he continued his trade as a shoemaker, retiring in 1934. Maria his wife died in 1931. William died on 11 Sep 1955 aged 89. He was buried at Oakland Anglian Cemetery, Ontario, Canada.
