TitleResearch file number 911 relating to Fred Marson (1890-1977)
Date2018
DescriptionWork completed by volunteer includes the following information:

Fred Marson was born on 19 Jan 1890 in Beverley and baptised at St Nicholas Church on 2 Mar 1890. He was one of eight children of Frederick John and Sarah Ann Marson. They married in Malton in 1885. Fred was a decorator and housepainter and his business in Beverley passed to his youngest son John. Sarah was a dressmaker. Fred became a cycle repairer. His younger brother, Frank, born 1896, served an apprenticeship with Edward Newham, Cycle and Motor Engineer of 7 Toll Gavel, and it is entirely possible that Fred had done so previously.

An article in the Beverley Guardian 11 May 1918 noted Fred had been in the East Yorkshire Regiment.

After the war Fred returned to Beverley. In early 1920 he married Hilda Voase, born Mar 1893. They had one child, Eva born the 15 May 1921. According to the 1939 Register the family lived in Greenways, Cottingham and Fred was employed as a chauffeur. By coincidence, his brother Frank had also been in this trade before joining the military. Fred died in Beverley in 1977 aged 86. His wife, Hilda died in 1971.
