William was born the 20 Sep 1878 the sixth of eight children of William and Sarah Ann Morris. He was educated at the Woodmansey School, from 19 Feb 1884 to 26 Jun 1892. He married Amy Buttle at St Peters Church in Anlaby on the 2 Mar 1901. The 1901 census shows he and Amy living with his widowed mother, he was working as a labourer. William and Amy had three children, William jnr born 1902, Arthur born 1904 and Fred born 1909. In 1911 the family were living in Flemingate, Beverley and William was working as a labourer for Beverley Rural District Council.
William served in the Royal Engneers but due to the many William Morris' who served in the Royal Engineers the medals he was awarded were not easily identifiable.
In the 1939 register William and Amy were living at 12 Sparkmill Terrace, Beverley, William was working as a foreman dockside handler. He died on 2 Feb 1956 and is buried in the Queensgate Cemetery, Beverley, Amy is buried with him, she died in 1958.
