Harry Mitchell was the second of three children born to Henry and Hannah Mitchell of Beverley. He was baptized on 19 May 1886 at St Mary’s church Beverley.

Harry’s father Henry was a groom who died in 1903 aged 58 years old. The family lived in Walkergate in Beverley.

Harry enlisted with the 17th Battalion of the Northumberland Fusiliers in 1915 as a private and by Jan 196 was serving in France. His photograph was published in the Beverley Guardian in Jan and Dec 1916. He was awarded the 15 Star, the Victory medal and the British War medal.

After the war he was employed as a striker for the LNER. He married Mabel Ombler on 10 December 1921 at St Paul’s church, Sculcoates. They had one child Frank born in in 1922.
Harry died at Hull Royal Infirmary on 20 Jul 1931 and was buried at Northern cemetery, Hull on 23 July 1931. He was 45.
