Leonard Londesborough Milner, the only son of Richard Londesborough Milner and his wife Laura Ann, was born in Beverley the 11 Jan 1894. The family were farming at Jocks Lodge, Bentley and Risby by 1901 where they stayed for a number of years. When Leonard was a teenager he worked on the farm assisting his father. They moved to the Bay Horse Inn, Cherry Burton when he joined the Army. At that time he was employed as second horseman to Mr G Heigham, huntsman to the Holderness Hounds.

Leonard enlisted in Mar 1916 and was posted to the Royal Field Artillery. He was unfortunate to be both wounded and gassed during 1917. It was reported in the Beverley Guardian on 14 Jul 1917 that his father had been told that Bombardier Milner had been wounded and was in hospital. After his recovery he returned to the front, a further report on 6 Oct 1917 said that he had been gassed.

After the war Leonard returned to working as a farm labourer. In 1923 he married Dora Gibson, their son, Ronald, was born the 8 Jun 1924. They lived in Beverley, their address in 1939 was The Lodge, Beverley. Leonard died in 1964, Dora died in 1946.
