Henry was born the 24 Mar 1872, one of thirteen children, he was educated at the Royal School of Armagh, then Trinity College Dublin. He was a professional soldier, joining the Leinster Regiment in 1894. He served in Saint Lucia 1898-1899, as the Garrison Adjutant and later with the West Africa Frontier force 1901, when he was awarded medals for operations against the Emirs, and the North West Frontier Force in India in 1908. In July 1914 he returned to Ireland, to Moore Camp at Fermoy as part of training,

Henry along with his Battalion sailed for France on 17 Aug 1914 from Belfast on the 'Magic' at 4am. Henry was in charge of 'B' Company, of the 2nd Battalion the Leinster Regiment at the Battle of Armentières, and died on 20 Oct 1914. His body was found by a German soldier named Walther Reinhardt, who returned his effects to Henry's sister Emile. Reinhardt later wrote about his experiences on the Western Front in a book called 'Sechs Monate Westfront', in this book he mentions his discovery of Captain Maffet's body.

Henry was buried at Houplines Cemetery extension plot sp mem3 Du Nord Nord -pas de- Calais, France.
