John Lascelles was born the 30 May 1898 at Beverley. He was one of 9 children of George and Harriet Lascelles. His father George was a farmer at Lockington Grange.

John enlisted into the 2nd Battalion the Inniskilling Fusiliers. He was taken prisoner in France in early 1918 during the Battle of St Quentin. He was not repatriated home until Jan 1919 when the Beverley Guardian carried reports of his return to Lockington. He was awarded the British and Victory medals.

John married Elsie Barker in Lund on 24 Jun 1926, their son Kenneth Gladstone was born on 18 Jul 1929. In 1939 the family were living at the Pipe and Glass public house, South Dalton where Elsie was the licensee and John was earning his living as a small holder. John died in 1981 aged 82.
