Peter Joyce Lambert was born the 31 Jan 1891 in Beverley, one of five children of Frank F and Emily Augusta Lambert (nee Harrison), his siblings were Guy, Kenneth, Ruth and Humphrey, the family business was in grain and oil.

Peter joined the East Riding Regiment and on 29 Aug 1914 it was reported in the London Gazette that he had been promoted to Second Lieutenant. On 10 Jan 1917 it was announced in the London Gazette that Second Lieutenant Lambert, had been awarded the Military Cross, the citation reads “For conspicuous gallantry in action. He rallied his men of all companies and some other units, and formed a strong point on the right flank, thereby saving a critical situation”. The actual battle was on 13 Nov 1916 between Gommecourt Wood and Serre.

After the war Peter returned to the family business. On 23 Apr 1930 he married Lettice J K Wellesley, at St George, Hanover Square, London, they had two children Peter Miles and Daphne Claire. The 1939 register shows Peter was in the oil seed business, his wife was Vice Chair of the East Riding Red Cross Society, and he was involved with the East Riding Regiment. Peter died in Sep 1970 in Suffolk.
