Frank Lister was born in Driffield the 14 Sep 1895. The 1891 census shows his father Charles was a printer born in Driffield and his mother Sarah Ann was born in Hawkenshaw, Northumberland. Frank was the youngest in the family. The 1901 census shows the family living in Brook Street, Driffield. By 1911 they have moved to Bedlington, near Blythe, Northumberland Charles was a painter with the Co-operative Society. The census tells us that Charles and Sarah had 7 children, 5 surviving and 2 deceased. In 1911 Walter the eldest son was still living at home and working in the coal mines, Frank aged 15, the youngest, was a student (County Council). The family moved back to Beverley where Charles became the landlord of the Packhorse Inn, Market Place.

Frank attested for military service with the 11th Battalion in Sep 1915 where his address is given as Market Place, Beverley, having trained at the City of Leeds Training College as a teacher. He was injured several times whilst on active service and was finally left the Army in 1919.

He was employed as an assistant master atWhitley Memorial School, Bedlington in 1919 and then at Central School Retford 1922-1927. He became headmaster of Naburn School in 1927 and North Cave School in 1934. Frank married Margery Wood at Beverley Minster in 1923. They had a daughter Barbara born 1928. Frank died in Weston-Super-Mare on the 13 Feb 1993 aged 97.
