George was born in Bridlington in 1897, the son of Robert Jenkinson, a fisherman originally from Filey, and his wife Elizabeth. In 1901 the family is living in Bow Street Yard, Bridlington. In the 1911 census George aged 13 is a scholar living with his mother and three of his siblings in Walker Street, Hull. A photograph of George, who was reported to be serving with the East Yorkshire Regiment, appeared in the Beverley Guardian the 3 Mar 1917, along with the photographs of three of his brothers who were also serving, Matthew, John (Jack), and Edward. George was reported to have been wounded when his picture was published.
George married Ada Gilson at Priory Church, Bridlington in 1920. He gave his occupation as labourer and his address as Kirkgate, Bridlington. George and Ada had eight children all born in Beverley; George, John, Edward, Ella, Wilfred, Matthew, Florence and Ada. The 1939 Register shows the family living in Riding Field Square, Beverley, and George was a general labourer. George died in 1961, aged 64 and Ada died in 1977, aged 82.
