Thomas Jude was born in Beverley the 2 Oct 1892 and was baptised at St Mary’s Church on 19 Oct 1892. Thomas was the youngest son and one of four children born to John Jude and Margaret Ford who married in 1886. John Jude was a farm labourer who originally came from Garveston in Norfolk; he later worked as a general labourer, latterly for Beverley Corporation. John married in 1865 and had nine children with Harriet Bales, born in Beverley in 1845 but she died in 1886.

Thomas was brought up on School Lane, Walkergate, Trinity Lane and later Chantry Lane, Beverley. In the 1911 census Thomas was recorded as a “general labourer in leather manufacturing”. On 30 Sep 1912 he married Sarah Tomlinson at Beverley Minster, Sarah born 1892, of Beckside, daughter of a labourer. They had three children Ada born Dec 1912, John born 1914 and Dorothy born 1920.

Thomas served in the Machine Gun Corps in 1917 and 1918 and was probably involved in many of the major actions of those years. He was to win the War and Victory Medals.

Iin the 1939 Register Thomas was listed as a “woodwork joiner”. By this time he had moved to Bridlington where he was living on Borough Road. His wife, Sarah, died in 1960 and Thomas married for a second time in 1962 to Lillian Langton. He died aged 73 in Sep 1966.
