Ernest was the second son of Sam and Mary Jane Jones, who lived at 43 Keldgate, Beverley, he was born the 28 May 1883 and baptised in the same year at Beverley Minster. He attended Minster Infants school and Minster Boys School. Ernest enlisted in the Yorks and Lancs and was sent for training with the newly established Machine Gun Corp. Ernest Jones was killed on 26 Mar 1918 during the first battles of Arras 1918. He has no known grave and is remembered on the Arras Memorial to the Missing. He is also remembered on the Hengate Memorial, the Keldgate Roll of Honour and on the East Riding Memorial in Beverley Minster.
