Albert Charles Andrews was born on 25 Jan 1899, the fifth of seven children born to Charles and Louisa Andrews. At the time of Albert's birth Charles was a stonemason and the family lived at 10 Pasture Terrace, having previously lived on Tiger Lane. Albert enrolled at the Beverley Weslyan School in 1907 and in 1911 was still living with his mother and five of his siblings on Pasture Terrace. His elder sister Florence and his father were both inmates of the East Rising Asylum. In 1911 Albert was employed as a gardener at Sewerby Hall, it is not clear when he enlisted in the 2nd Battalion of the Lancashire Fusiliers, his elder brother, John Sydney, also a gardener, enlisted in the 5th Battallion of Alexandra, Princess of Wales's Own Yorkshire Regiment, the Beverley Terriers, as Private 2098, on 4 Sep 1914.

Private 50001 Albert Charles Andrews, died of wounds received on 30 Mar 1918, at a casualty clearing station in France. For his efforts in the war he received, posthumously, the British War and Victory medals and is remembered both on the Beverley War Memorial and the Beverley Minster War Memorial. He is buried in the Duisans British Cemetery, Etrun, France.

John Sydney survived the war and was awarded the British and Victory Medals, the 1915 Star and a Silver Badge. His name appears on the original list for the St Mary's Roll of Honour, as reported in the Beverley and East Riding Recorder in Oct 1914.
