Biography of George Hudson born at Howsham the son of a yeoman farmer, who inherited a fortune which he invested in the growing railway industry, becoming known as 'The Railway King'. He was Lord Mayor of York three times, but financial scandal led to a life of poverty in France. He was buried in Scrayingham church yard.
