Abstract | A late 13th century timber revetment was partially uncovered and was found to retain several layers of rubbish infill. Towards the end of the first quarter of the 14th century it fell into disuse, most of its timbers were removed and the area occupied by a large waterfront building. A second revetment was constructed further to the east and this was superseded by a third later in the 14th century. Considerable quantities of well-preserved leather were recovered from the infilled rubbish deposits as well as assemblages of pottery, animal bone, floral and faunal material. |
