Abstract | Exploration of the Foulness valley has revealed a remarkable wealth and continuity of prehistoric activity. The archaeological evidence includes a Lower Palaeolithic hand-axe, Mesolithic sites and a concentration of Neolithic polished stone and flint tools. An attempt has also been made to provide an environmental framework for the distribution of these and previous Bronze Age finds. As a result of this work, one of the oldest and largest Iron Age iron industries in Britain and two contemporary logboats have been discovered. |
