Two local 'ghost' stories extracted from an article called 'Memoralibis of the 17th century' in volume 2 of Chambers's 'Papers for the People' published in 1852. One relates to an appearance of pikemen in Hull in 1654, the other the sound of ordnance heard by hundreds of people in Holderness and Hull in 1658
