Date | 1999 |
Abstract | This paper describes some of the surviving records concerning staiths which lie along the Humber estuary. The description is from the view of a practising Humber pilot rather than that of an historian. There is a description of the need for a dedicated structure such as a staith and then details are given of how staiths were constructed. The concluding sections describe the final flowering of the different types of staiths and suggestions as to the cause of their demise. |
