TitleThe parish of Warter and the Castle of Galchin
Date1980
AbstractIn King Stephen's reign there were two religious foundations in the parish of Warter, a grange of the Cistercian house of Meaux, and the canons of Warter Priory. Documents relating to these houses show a struggle in the 12th century for control over the wealthy manor in which they lay. The documents are re-examined and a revised version of Warter's 12th century history is presented. The appendix deals with the question of the identity of the castle of Galchlin
