AdminHistoryFrederick Newnham was born at Newport, Isle of Wight. He joined the Royal Navy as a very young man and served on HMS 'Hero of the Mediterranean Fleet' until the outbreak of the Second World War. Frederick served as a gunner and was a member of the crew of 'HMS Suffolk' when she was sent to bombard Stavanger, Norway. He also served aboard the destroyer 'HMS Beverley' which acted as escort to several convoys in the Barents Sea. After leaving the Royal Navy he worked on the Isle of Wight for Southern Railways and British Rail until his retirement.
