DescriptionNote book on the history of the Heck Bridge and Wentbridge Railway, which ran through Kirk Smeaton and Little Smeaton across the borders of West Yorkshire and North Yorkshire. Note book contains the following: annotated Ordnance Survey map showing proposed schemes and actual route; notes on the Womersley-Trumfleet Railway scheme 1821; notes on the Womersley-Barmby upon Dun Railway scheme 1822-1825; notes on the Heck Bridge and Wentbridge Railway scheme 1826-1841 with notes on the Act, extracts from letters in the Sheffield City Libraries [now East Riding of Yorkshire Archives DDCL/647, 652, 653]; notes from minutes of Aire and Calder Navigation and miscellaneous contemporary references. Also with a series of photographs of the route of the dismantled line taken May 1970 and a series of annotated parliamentary deposited plans showing the route of the line.
