DescriptionIncludes references to the decease of Grimston's Aunt Jenkinson; having written to Miss Marshall asking that her Father or Brother would present Grimston with details of the distressed condition of her daughter Laughton; Sarah Hamerton having cared for the mother and notified Grimston of her death; the Parish of Rotherham having sent [the daughter] to the Parish of Laughton to be maintained; Grimston being the daughter's nearest relative; she being 'little remote from an Idiot' and a small yearly allowance being enough to support her being placed at a Farmers for her support. Also includes a reply dated 21 Dec 1752 referring to a letter he had received from Mrs Hamerton;the credit sent from his agent; the daughter's case having not been properly represented to him; having been ignorant of Mrs Jenkinson at his Father's death; the application of Mr Hatfield and Nelthorp; having sent a further amount to Mr Maister to repay Mrs Hamerton and provide for Mrs Laughton; not having heard from Mr Marshall's family and Mrs Hamerton not being a proper person to solicit for the needy, her letter being more petitions for herself
