DescriptionIncludes references to the daughter and where she should go, which Hamerton thinks should be [L]oughton where Mr Hadfield lived; the town wanting her to be sworn to her settlement; her having been taken and accepted and provided for; she being over fifty years of age and not capable of doing anything; the last money paid to Hamerton; an account of what Hamerton had paid out for the 'ould Jentel Woman'; one shilling a week more than her weekly pay had been paid since last Christmas as she hadn't left her room; her having always come on a Wednesday and Saturday for her pay to Mrs Hamerton; Mrs Hamerton having given her her dinner every time that she visited; having sent her something that she could eat every Sunday whilst she was ill; the old woman having been blind for a number of years and neither her or her daughter able to earn a penny to help; 'oul Esq[uire] Hadfield' having allowed her a peck of corn every week which he sent to Hamerton's house for her every month; he having died about the same time as 'Esq[uire] Grimston' died; having been over to Loughton to talk to Hardwick's wife and sisters about what should be done about the [old lady's] funeral and they had told her that Grimston would pay all the charge and had also paid her for the corn that Hamerton had let her have; 'shetes' and 'linin' provided; the old lady having been from a good family and clever; her relationship to Grimston; her having had a fortune of £1000 but only ever receiving four score pounds and lists expenses paid for care, rent, wine and sack and funeral expenses; having had her daughter for 8 weeks but not charging; Loughton having to pay her if Grimston does not and her 'nexte Nabor' being Mr John Bingley Mercer who will vouch for her. Also includes a response dated 21 Dec 1752 stating that Mr Hatfield of Laughton has been instructed to pay the £1 6s 2p funeral expenses to Mrs Hamerton and that a credit on Mr Maisters has been given for 6 guineas more for the releif of the 'destressed' and hoping that this is as much as can be expected
