'Zachariah Pearson: philanthropist , victim or swindler' by Marian Shaw. In 1860 Zachariah Charles Pearson, as mayor of Hull, had donated land for the first people's park in Hull. Within three years public opinion had swung badly against him and the article attempts to explain why this happened.
