Copy letter to Captain Massingham from John Shepherd, HMS Inconstant, Monte Video which refers to Charles Rudston-Read as zealous and respectful but his health is insufficient to take on the arduous work of a 1st lieutenant. If he was younger he would not readily part with Mr Read but it would not do for them both to break down off Cape Horn. |
