TitleLetter to Rev Thomas Cutler Rudston-Read, Sandhutton from George Ruston, Hull
Date26 May 1810
DescriptionDescribes in further detail Henry Rudston's financial speculations concerning 'The Adelphi'. Mentions the 'Brigg Adventurer' in relation to their unfortunate sister who has shares in it with Henry. In 1806 Henry Rudston joined the transport service. Mentions 'poor Ann' and the undervaluing that took place with an invalid, Peter Atkinson, who became a bankrupt. The cases of the ships 'Adelphi' and 'Adventurer' came upon his hands and he has never received a penny. The 'Adelphi' went into the King's service and lost a great deal of money. The 'Adventurer' was rotting in Hull Dock but is [now?] worth £1200. George has tried to resolve the problems for his two unfortunate relatives. Has begun to register the ship so that it can be conveyed to the purchaser and is greatly concerned for Henry's state of mind and his marriage. Mentions a Mr King. Henry is currently in Lisbon in an unhappy state. If he [Thomas] sends a settlement, he will carry out his wishes despite the 'false accusations and imperious treatment' he has at all times received from him and comments that his brother[?] has attempted a respectable trade. Postscript: he has to settle a matter of poor Ann's.
