Arthur Stabler was born the 19 Aug 1896 in Cottingham the son of Robert Arthur and Louisa Stabler (nee Needham). In 1901 Robert was a general carrier. A brother Rodney Needham Stabler who was born in 1890. On 13 Aug 1900 Arthur started Cottingham Hallgate school and by 1901 was living with his paternal grandparents Robert and Emily Stabler, at West Green, Cottingham, whilst his parents and brother lived on King Street. Arthur attended Cottingham Primitive Methodist Church Sunday School. By 1911 Arthur and Rodney were living with their mother at 246 Park Row, Cottingham and Arthur was working as a gardener's boy.

Arthur enlisted in Hull and joining the 6th Battalion Northumberland Fusiliers, with the service number 6/5806. He was later transferred to the 21st Battalion (Tyneside Scottish) Northumberland Fusiliers and his service number was changed to 37252. He was killed in action on 5 Jun 1917 at Greenland Hill, France and his death is commemorated at the Arras memorial and in the Primitive Methodist Hall, Cottingham. He was awarded the British War medal and the Victory medal.

Upon his death he left an estate valued £63 10s 7d with his mother listed as his executor.
