Jeffrey Tinsley Horsfield was born 28 Dec 1891 and was baptised at Beverley Minster on 23 Jan 1893, the son of John Henry and Jessie Horsfield (nee Jeffrey). John Henry worked as a railway clerk and is also recorded on 1901 as a professional singer. The family lived on Grovehill Road, Beverley. In 1911 Jeffrey was working as a County Council clerk.
According to the 1939 register Jeffrey served in the East Riding Yeomanry from 1908. From his medal card we know he served in France in 1915 and was transferred from the Yeomanry to the Machine Gun corps. He served in France and in the Middle East. He was awarded the 15 Star, the British and Victory medals and was discharged from the army in 1919.
In 1939 Jeffrey was living with his widowed mother and two sisters in Bridlington. His occupation is recorded as a miller’s traveler. He died in Bridlington on 14 Apr 1959.
