Albert Hope was born in Newbald in1896 the son of Alfred and Emily Hope, nee Sanderson. By 1901 the family were still in Newbald but there were four siblings for Albert; Ann, Tom, Harry and Minnie. In 1911 he was living on Manor Farm, Sancton where he worked as a cowman.
Albert enlisted as a private in the East Yorkshire Regiment on 2 Feb 1914. He received the Victory and British medals. According to the Beverley Guardian he was wounded in the thigh in 1917. He was discharged from the regiment on 18 Sep 1918.
Albert married Margaret Lawson in 1915 at Beverley Minster when he was serving as a Private, based at Hedon. He was 19 and Margaret was 18. They had two children, Frederick Albert born 1919 and Vera born 1925. Vera married Norman Clayton in 1945 in Hull. Margaret died in 1930 aged 33, she is buried in Queensgate Cemetery, Beverley. Albert died in 1931 aged 35.
